The City of Naga is set to host the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet once again, welcoming the region’s top young athletes from March 22 to 28, 2026.

Having previously staged the games in 2016 and 2017, the City of Naga once again takes on the responsibility of gathering Central Visayas’ finest learner athletes in a weeklong celebration of sportsmanship, discipline, and unity. This year’s meet comes with a notable change. From the previous 20 school divisions, participation has been reduced to 12 following the transfer of eight divisions to the newly established Negros Island Region.

Despite the smaller field, preparations remain extensive as the city positions itself to deliver an organized and memorable regional competition. Naga has earned a reputation as a dependable host of major events, most recently staging the National Festival of Talents (NFOT) in 2024. The successful conduct of that national gathering reinforced the city’s standing as an organized and capable venue for large scale academic and athletic competitions.

Beyond its accessible sports facilities, Naga continues to draw visitors through its growing tourism and commercial appeal. Its coastal attractions, expanding business districts, and touristy surroundings provide an environment that supports both high-level competition and an amicable stay for delegates.

Infrastructure and scenery, however, tell only part of the story. Driving Naga’s development is a clear and sustained commitment to education. The city government has consistently placed learners at the forefront of its agenda, directing resources toward improved school facilities, enhanced academic programs, and continuing youth development initiatives.

Hosting CVIRAA is more than a ceremonial role for the City of Naga. The City Government, led by Mayor Valdemar Chiong alongside Vice Mayor Virgilio Chiong and members of the City Council, is working in close coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) - City of Naga Division under Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ronald G. Gutay and Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Atty. Leviticus M. Barazon Jr.

Both the local government and DepEd regard the regional meet as a shared undertaking that supports athletic performance and personal growth. Preparations have been undertaken through joint planning and regular coordination meetings, covering the upgrading of sports facilities, as well as arrangements for billeting, transportation, and security to ensure the smooth conduct of the weeklong event.

As delegations arrive in March, the City of Naga seeks to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for learners, athletes, coaches, and all those who will take part in the regional meet.
